Holiday shipping deadlines are not the same thing as your order deadline.
USPS gives customers recommended mail-by dates.
This year it is Thursday 12/17 for First Class Mail.
Handmade sellers need to work backward from those dates and leave room to make, pack, and hand off each order. Set your production buffer and promise customers a date you can actually meet.
Most important, please remember that the USPS shipping dates are not a guarantee of delivery.

TEMPORARY USPS RATES
OCT. 4, 2026–JAN. 17, 2027
USPS has approved a temporary holiday price increase for Ground Advantage, Priority Mail, and Priority Mail Express. If you charge flat-rate shipping, offer free shipping, or quoted a custom order early, this one can nibble your profit if you ignore it.
- For 0–3 lb packages, Ground Advantage rises 50¢ in zones 1–4 and 75¢ in zones 5–9.
- Priority Mail rises 50¢ nearby and $1 farther away. Most Priority Mail Flat Rate products rise $1; the Large Flat Rate Box rises $2.10. Heavier and faster packages increase more.
- Commercial rates also change, so labels bought through Etsy, Pirate Ship, ShipStation, or another platform may not match the retail amounts.

Turn the USPS Date Into Your Order Deadline
USPS send-by date – Your making time – Your packing/hand-off buffer = Your customer order cutoff
Example: If USPS says mail by December 18, your item takes 5 business days to make, and you want a 2-day cushion, stop offering Christmas delivery around December 9. Custom work, proofs, local pickup, markets, and production partners each need their own buffer.

Update Etsy, other marketplace listings, your own site, social bios and pinned posts, auto-replies, custom-order forms, and market or craft-show signs. If one place says 12/10 and another says 12/15, you know which one a rushed shopper will remember.

Local pickup can stay open later than shipped orders and ready-to-ship items can stay open later than made-to-order work.
Personalized pieces that need customer approval may need to close first.
One deadline does not have to apply to every listing.

Their order deadline is usually earlier because production time comes before shipping time. Check every provider you use, by product and destination.
Don’t borrow one company’s date for another, and don’t reuse last year’s date.
Give yourself room for proofs, remakes, and holiday backlogs.

Carrier send-by dates are recommendations, not guarantees. Weather, volume, address problems, and missed scans can still cause delays.
Say when you will ship and which service you will use. Avoid guaranteeing arrival unless the service you purchased actually includes a guarantee.
