Banish Tarnish

craft tips icon

I recently had a new customer ask if my silver tone jewelry findings tarnish. She said that she has been having a problem with her other supplier’s items tarnishing. We briefly discussed lead safe, nickel safe, zinc based metal alloybut my overall response to this concern is as follows:

I’ve never seen any of my items tarnish, however they aren’t here for very long, and they are also always in their packaging. I think that pretty much all metals can become discolored eventually, so it’s important to keep it away from the elements (ie. humidity in the air). If you don’t wear gloves, maybe use a cloth to be sure that oils from fingers are removed after handling, etc.

Luckily, there are many tools of the trade readily available to help us out.

Jewelry Gloves

These are inexpensive, have great reviews, and best of all… they come in fun colors!

You might even want to include one for your customers! These are individually wrapped.

Anti-tarnish strips! They come in large quantities and are inexpensive enough to package with your products!

There are also anti-tarnish packaging options and so on.

I have white gloves, but now seeing the black… I’m thinking maybe black jewelry gloves would work nicely for quick pictures of charms, etc.

Well, that’s all I have for you today!  I hope that this information has been helpful and please do feel free to share and/or head over to the Facebook Page or Group to discuss further!
